Delicate, luminous, and one-of-a-kind — freshwater pearls are one of those timeless materials that never lose their poetry.
At Waekura, we love them for their softness, natural glow, and the unique touch they bring to every piece. Here’s their story.
🌿 One pearl, one unique glow
Unlike the perfectly round pearls of traditional strands, freshwater pearls stand out with their organic shape.
They’re irregular — sometimes elongated, sometimes baroque — which makes each one absolutely unique.
No two pairs of earrings will ever be exactly the same — and that’s exactly what we love about them.
🐚 Where do they come from?
Our freshwater pearls are carefully cultivated, mainly in Asia, in responsible farms.
They grow in freshwater mollusks — not marine oysters — which gives them their distinctive character.
Their nacre is thicker, softer, and reflects light in a subtle, almost velvety way.
💛 Why we chose them
In our workshop, each pearl is selected one by one. It’s the pearl that inspires the shape of the jewelry — not the other way around.
They pair beautifully with our gold chains, soften layered looks, and enhance sun-kissed skin in summer just as much as a chic outfit in winter.
Wearing a freshwater pearl means wearing a piece of nature.
✨ How to wear them
-
As minimalist earrings, for an effortless look
-
In layered combinations with textured gold rings
-
As a choker necklace, to brighten the neckline
💡 Tip: Pearls love being worn. Contact with the skin naturally hydrates them and maintains their shine.
💬 A word from the workshop
"Each pearl tells a story. It’s a living jewel, always in motion. We love working with this material — it brings depth and light to our collections."
