Backstage, the summer shoot

For this new article we take you behind the scenes of our shoot!

A second part of the collection still in Sitges, Spain, but with a much more summery feel!

We decided to do everything in-house to save time and money during the covid period, with Sandra and Mabel (MUA in the business;) as models.)

After discovering our latest collection, check out the work behind these images!

Mélissa, co-founder & photographer of the day

Usually I take care of everything that can be seen, so after a quick training, go for the photos!

Philip, co-founder & filmmaker du jour

More into excel tables or stocks, Philip has discovered a passion for videos!

Coline, head of retail & assistant of the day

You may have seen her at the Bon Marché but for this day she is in charge of the jewellery and the preparation!

The places, the clothes, the light

Once the jewellery is ready, the moodboard in mind and the team found, I take care of a crucial element: the organisation of the day.

What jewellery will enhance the outfit, where to shoot it, when to shoot it for the best light? Shooting outdoors also means no place to leave your things and change quietly. For each shoot, my priority is to make a realistic rendering, atmospheres that resemble our everyday life and in this case, our holidays.

So here we go with a long powerpoint with the details and locations of the shots. On this beach collection we also had to find a place where we could be quiet and not have 1000 people around us. Hours on google maps, instagram and Pinterest later everything was ready! The shooting day could begin.

9am: make-up and set-up

After the transport to Sitgès, it was time for make-up for the day. Having the sun for this shoot was a no-brainer, but it made make-up difficult, as did the heat! Fortunately, we wanted a very light make-up application... but it still took 1 hour to prepare the skin and hair!

And as things didn't go according to plan, 0 cafés opened for us to put our make-up on. 9am in Spain, out of season, a bit too early! Everything will open at 1pm, but with this view we're not going to complain...

While the model is getting ready, we prepare the clothes and jewellery in the order of the brief.

 Let's go for the shots!

Morning city centre

The first breaks follow, no one in sight until 11 o'clock! Under a big towel, Sandra changes her outfit and Coline prepares and sets up some jewels. 2 hours where we mustn't linger before the sun is too strong (even if it already is) and where we must have all the required pictures: the ones taken from afar, the ones zoomed in to show you the jewels at their best, the ones that will be used for social networks.

You loved the videos in part 1 so here we go again, Philip takes care of the filming with Sandra still at ease as a model or actress!

Did you ask for an anecdote?

The sand burned our feet and one of us had Birkenstocks. To get into the sand we took turns wearing them.

Whether you think it's ugly or stylish, it saved our feet!

Check that jewellery is securely in place, that tags or underwear are not sticking out, that make-up has not run and that sun cream is not visible...

Did you ask for an anecdote?

In the videos Sandra threw the hat at Philip for effect in the editing. The throw was a bit too powerful. We'll let you guess what happened next

THE BREAK

Too much light at noon (and a bit hungry...) it's time for tapas! The speciality of course: croquettas and patatas bravas. As we always say at Waekura: you have to know how to treat yourself ;)

(ps: yes, it was very hot)

MEGA HAPPY for the team, after 10 minutes of driving we arrive on a beach in a small deserted cove! Chance makes good and even in the sun we will be able to enjoy this sublime setting!

ps: Sunscreen is clearly our best ally

pps: If you were wondering about this nice one-piece swimming costume, Sandra changed her outfit at the restaurant ;)

An incredible setting, a huge sun and a great team, what more could you ask for? The breaks are all more beautiful than the others, we will stay on this beach all afternoon!

Did you ask for an anecdote?

We wanted a "I'm getting out of the water like a James Bond girl" style photo. Did we get it? Yes. Did a wave come in all at once (a bit too high)? Yes. We'll let you guess the rest

End of a day at the marina to freshen up, take a few last photos and enjoy a bit before heading back.

A great and intense day, all tanned and exhausted by this sun but happy to have succeeded in making a great content for our site!

What's next? The selection of photos (only 10%), colour retouching, compression for the website and preparation of the communication!

I hope you enjoyed this little behind-the-scenes look at the product pages to see the final photos ;)
